Improved Marketing Chain of Dried Fruits

 

10 July 2010. Arcolad CJSC started its operation on October 10, 2004 as a small-scale chocolate producer. By 2005 the company had already started the production of a small assortment of chocolate candies. In 2006 it began supplying products to supermarkets and expanded its product range with chocolate covered dried fruits.

US Ambassador’s visit to Tavush region

 

15 June 2010. On June 11, 2010, CARD AgroCredit employees and US Embassy officials traveled to the tiny village of Sarigyugh in the picturesque Tavush region to visit two Millennium Challenge Account (MCA) projects. The US Ambassador to Armenia, Marie Yovanovitch, was on a two day visit to the region to meet with local NGOs and visit rural development projects.

INTRODUCTION OF KIWI FRUIT IN ARMENIA

 

29 May 2010. Kiwi is a unique fruit which is mainly imported to Armenia from neighboring countries at a volume of 300-500 tons (over 700,000 US Dollar) annually with a retail price of 1200-1400 AMD per kg. However, despite having the possibility to cultivate the fruit in Armenia, local farmers are facing several obstacles to starting production of kiwi on their lands. The main problems with kiwi cultivation in Armenia are related to the lack of assistance in importing high quality rootstocks and an absence of consulting services by specialists competent in kiwi growing.

ARTIFICIAL INSEMINATION AND ANIMAL HUSBANDRY IN TAVUSH REGION

 

15 May 2010. The protection of rural animal husbandry and improvement of genetics is endangered in Armenia due to the shortening of the scope of artificial insemination because of the economic changes under the Agricultural Reforms. Because of a lack of synergic activities towards breeding, about 35-40 percent of livestock genetics has been reduced in Armenia. Several researchers of foreign countries, among them Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, Poland and Hungary, testify that milk production is highly dependent on complex technologies in genetics improvements, animal care and housing, feeding, and access to veterinarians, all of which is called “livestock management.” This strategy is a very important component for businesses in terms of investing in information and consultancy, as well as technologies and new methods.

LEARNING POST HARVEST HANDLING TECHNOLOGIES

 

10 May 2010. On May 02-09, 2010 three CARD foundation representatives visited the Netherlands through a business link program organized by “PUM - the Netherlands senior experts” organization. The host and organizer of the trip were Mr. Otto Wagenaar, PUM Country Coordinator of Armenia, Georgia and Azerbaijan and Drs. Cees Arkesteijn the former director of KCB- Dutch Fruit and Vegetable Inspection body in the Netherlands who has previously visited Armenia as a PUM volunteer to advise on a Cooperative development project.

TASTING AT “FRESH” SUPERMARKETS

 

30 April 2010. On April 30th wine and cheese tasting was organized in Fresh Supermarket. It was a collaborative project of “CARD” Foundation and “Fresh” LLC which aims at promoting Armenian products and introducing consumers the high quality of cheeses and wines available in Armenian market. At the same time, organizing tasting event envisions to increase welfare of Armenian producers.

MAKING A CHANGE IN KHACHIK VILLAGE

 

20 April 2010. CARD Foundation already supports Khachik village development through the provision of agricultural assistance especially to women and young members of the community. Recently, a new program was launched in the village, establishment of a computer room for a young farmers group in Khachik. The room is furnished with five computers (four provided by CARD and one by AGBU), multifunction equipment that can be used for printing, scanning and copying (from CARD), five cables, five chairs and other supplies (from AGBU) necessary for full function of the computer room.

HERITAGE AND AGRICULTURE EVENT

 

18 April 2010. Erebouni archaeological museum and the International Council of Monuments and Sites/ ICOMOS in Armenia organized an event called “Heritage and Agriculture,” which aimed at presenting the artifacts found in the Erebouni fortress to the public. These artifacts testify that Armenia is a country with an ancient agricultural heritage.
